Flanagan Park Improvements
Neighbors were excited to hear that improvements to Flanagan Park are being finalized with construction beginning this year. In the plans are a new playground, ADA walking path, lights, and a new basketball court among many improvements. The full plan can be reviewed on the city’s website here.
Portal Park Mural
Local artists met last Sunday to discuss the Pool House and are collaborating on designs for the building. Early discussions on the design have included a representation of the area’s natural, indigenous, and mining history, and to include recent area history and a representation of the future. If you have suggestions or would like to be involved don’t hesitate to reach out.
We hope to share drafts of designs in the coming weeks to get consensus from our neighbors. Also, we are actively collecting donations of paint and paint materials in preparation. We will be transparent to share the costs for this project as we do anticipate the need for donations to compensate local artist for their time and labor.
Save your spray paint! We’ll announce the paint by number mural as a community event. A blank canvass is tempting, but please hold off
until August!
Venetian Village Yard Sales
A great question to ask neighbors to determine how long they’ve lived in the area is if they remember the Venetian Village Neighborhood Yard
Sales. Do you? Whether or not, we are so excited to share that the Yard Sales are making their return since being on hiatus from the last sales in 2019.
With support from our neighbor Kass Johns who managed the yard sales for many years we are excited to bring back the yard sales and expanding the sales to include all homes in Papeton!
The sales are returning August 7th & 8th (8 am – 3 pm Friday and Saturday.)
We will be organizing a team to coordinate the event, which in past years brought in over 3,000 shoppers!

Edison Gardens
The Edison PTA and community members have come together to support the construction of two garden beds at Edison Elementary. Over the summer community members are needed to help with watering and we are asking for donations to support the creation of more garden beds.
Sarah, our neighbor and PTA member has a plan for up to 12 more beds with fencing, benches, and hail netting. If you would like to support the
Edison Gardens, please reach out and let us know how you could contribute.
Portal Gardens
The City’s Horticultural Department is finalizing the bed design and plant selection for the native gardens at Portal Park. These new beds will serve as a model for xeriscaping, which differs from the traditional Springs in Bloom garden beds located around the City. The landscaping team organized by our neighbor Jenny will be sharing potential planting dates in the next few weeks! This will be the first projected organized by the Papeton-Cragmor Parks Coalition. Reach out if you would like to be involved in this or future projects like trail clean ups.
