MEETING NEARBY NEIGHBORS
Last month we met with neighbors in the Roswell neighborhood. The Roswell neighborhood is located west of Papeton between Fillmore, Nevada, and the Rock Island Trail. Their neighbors are working to organize a team of block captains who will keep each other informed of issues, suspicious activity, and preventing crime. They will be hosting two upcoming events a ” Sip and Stroll” event on Dec 20th @ 5 : 30 pm with hot chocolate and a walk around the neighborhood, and Mayor Yemi Mobolade and Council member Nancy Henjum will be speaking Jan 20th @ 6: 30 pm Roswell Community Church to hear from neighbors. All are welcome to attend!

We are excited to connect with other neighborhoods who share similar concerns for the future of our communities and are committed to supporting each other. Both neighborhoods are mutually interested in working together to have a voice in the City’s Renew North Nevada Avenue Master Plan.
DECEMBER NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING
Following the September Parks meeting with the City at Edison Elementary, neighbors have suggested a follow-up meeting of community members. We will be meeting Thursday, December 18 at Storybook Brewing, 3121 A N, 3119 N El Paso St A, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Ciao Down food truck will at Storybook with Italian American food available for purchase.
This gathering of neighbors and community supporters (business owners, friends and family, and community groups) will give us time to discuss community ideas for the parks. We will work to form a consensus, proposals, and questions, so we can be organized for the next meeting with City officials about our neighborhood parks. If you are unable to attend, please email us your thoughts that we can share at the meeting. The City is tentatively planning a follow-up meeting in early January.

PAPETON AND ROSWELL HISTORY
The Roswell and Papeton neighborhoods have a shared history as they were both towns for local workers with the coal industry. Papeton was formed by coal miners and Roswell was home to rail workers serving the local mines. Roswell is home to the former Roswell Racetrack and Alexander Film Company. If history and trains sound interesting to you, we recommend visiting the Pikes Peak Trolley Museum to view the past Colorado Springs rail infrastructure. Did you know that Colorado Springs used to have a City trolley network?
