PARK IMPROVEMENTS
Neighbors from Papeton and Cragmor have met with Council member Nancy Henjum and Parks and Recreation staff to discuss upgrades or facilities improvements at Flanagan and Portal Parks. Flanagan has been promised upgrades but has not received the grant money to complete the projects. Parks staff has encouraged that a large turnout at community meetings has the biggest impact on the grant decision
process.
A community meeting is getting organized by the City to discuss the projects and more details are soon to come.

CITY NOTIFICATION LIST
When developers are constructing projects, the City is required to mail notices to residents within a 1000 ft radius. This has made keeping up with all and any changes in the neighborhood difficult. Our organization has recently been added to the City’s mailing list for all developments in the neighborhood, which we will share in future newsletters.
LOOKING AHEAD IN PAPETON
As a new neighborhood organization, we are working to connect with neighbors and learn more about what neighbors would like from the organization. We are always open and interested to hear ideas for social and neighborhood events or issues that need to be addressed. So far suggestions have included a neighborhood wide yard sale, an annual block party, a floodway clean-up day, addressing alley-way improvements, and a holiday decorating contest.
If you would like to be involved, we would appreciate help with sharing flyers to neighbors on your block, creating social media content, writing articles for the newsletter, and helping to connect with neighbors and local businesses. Or share your skills and ideas as to how you can help!
We believe that a more connected neighborhood will create a stronger sense of a belonging, so that we are looking out for each other, and preserving the character of our neighborhood.
We are proud of the history of our neighborhood, which was founded as a town in 1903 by union coal miners. The town had its own school, shops and grocer, farms, a power plant, and partnered with Colorado College for education programs. As a historic working-class neighborhood, it’s a priority for us to maintain our connection to the solidarity of our founders. While we may no longer be mining for coal, we value the unity, mutual support, and collective strength that brought our founders together and allowed for them to build Papeton, where we all call home.
